Loganville High School will be undergoing major changes moving into the 2020-2021 school year. An expansion is soon to occur, and small changes are already beginning to take place. To start, LHS’s front office, kitchen, and cafeteria will begin being renovated before the end of the 2018-2019 school year. Foundation work will begin on an addition to the current facilities around the same period, and the parking lot next to the theater along with the side of the school facing the parking lot will be fenced off as a result. The addition to the current facilities will extend into the first row of parking and will include ten classrooms, a gym, locker rooms, bathrooms, and more office space. The addition will contain four double-size classrooms that can be divided by a partition into two regularly sized classrooms. The parking lot will not be expanded with the school, and student drop-off and pick up will likely move down one row within the lot. As it stands now, the area where the courtyard enters H hall and D hall enters H hall are open areas; the new addition will enclose these areas with a locking door for security purposes. Students will no longer have to walk outside the school with the exception of the field house. As a result, the corners of H hall will be closed during the summer. Over the summer, a new roof and HVAC system — heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system — will also be installed while the cafeteria will be extended out the back in order to provide more space in the kitchen area. Mr. Rick Weeks, LHS’s assistant principal in charge of facilities, stated, “It's going to be a busy, busy place up here.” He notes the main motivations for the expansion are the need for additional classroom space; he hopes that the addition will accommodate more students and produce environments more “conducive to learning.” When asked about his feelings regarding the addition, Mr. Weeks said “[The expansion’s] going to be good. It's going to be a great thing. The front office has always been kind of compacted — almost too tight.” He continued, “I would prefer to have teachers out of the trailers; it's more secure and comfortable for teaching. I think it's going to be a good thing.” Discussions predict construction will be completed a week before pre-planning, around July 25th, and students will not be largely affected by construction this school year.
